Step-by-Step GST Registration Process in Jammu & Kashmir (2026)

Complete 2026 GST registration walkthrough for J&K — eligibility, documents, Aadhaar e-KYC, ARN tracking, and how to get your GSTIN in 7 working days.

Whether you're starting a retail shop in Lal Chowk, registering a Kashmir handicraft export unit in Srinagar, or formalising a Jammu trading firm, the GST registration process in 2026 is fully online and Aadhaar-driven. Here is the exact 2026 walkthrough.

Step 1 — Confirm you're eligible (or required)

  • Turnover above ₹40L (goods) / ₹20L (services) in J&K
  • Inter-state supply — any sale outside J&K, or export of goods/services
  • E-commerce sellers (Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho)
  • Casual taxable person (Kashmir exhibition seller in Delhi/Mumbai)
  • Tender eligibility (PWD, JKERA, PMGSY contracts)
  • Voluntary — common for B2B vendors who need to issue tax invoices

Step 2 — Keep documents ready

  • PAN of business / proprietor
  • Aadhaar of authorised signatory (mandatory Aadhaar OTP authentication)
  • Business address proof — electricity bill + NOC from owner OR registered rent agreement OR property tax receipt
  • Bank proof — cancelled cheque / J&K Bank / SBI passbook front page / first page of statement
  • Photograph of proprietor / partners / directors
  • Partnership deed or COI (companies) or LLP agreement
  • Board resolution authorising signatory (companies)

Step 3 — File Part A on www.gst.gov.in

Go to Services → Registration → New Registration. Enter PAN, mobile, email and state (Jammu and Kashmir). You'll receive a TRN (Temporary Reference Number) via OTP. Keep it safe — Part B must be completed within 15 days.

Step 4 — File Part B (the real work)

  • Business details, constitution, date of commencement
  • Place of business with address proof upload
  • Bank account with cancelled cheque upload
  • Goods & services with HSN/SAC codes
  • Authorised signatory details
  • State-specific information for J&K
  • Aadhaar OTP authentication of signatory

Step 5 — ARN and tracking

On successful submission you get an ARN (Application Reference Number). Use it to track status under Services → Track Application Status. With clean documents and Aadhaar authentication, J&K GSTINs are typically issued in 3–7 working days.

Step 6 — Physical verification (sometimes)

If the officer is not satisfied with address proof or if Aadhaar authentication fails, you may face physical verification within 30 days. Keep the business premises tagged with a signboard and have utility bills handy.

Step 7 — Post-registration setup

  • Display GSTIN at principal place of business (mandatory under Rule 18)
  • Update GSTIN on Amazon / Flipkart / Meesho seller dashboard
  • File LUT if exporting goods or services from J&K — annual renewal
  • Set up invoice software / Tally / Zoho Books with HSN, SAC, place of supply
  • Generate e-invoice if turnover above ₹5 Cr (compulsory from 1 August 2023)
  • Calendar your first GSTR-1 (11th) and GSTR-3B (20th) due dates

Common reasons GST applications get rejected in J&K

  • Address proof in someone else's name without NOC
  • Rent agreement not on stamp paper or not notarised
  • Aadhaar OTP failure — mobile number not linked to UIDAI
  • PAN name spelling mismatch with Aadhaar
  • Wrong HSN/SAC selection
